Myanmar (formerly Burma): Pyu Ancient Cities
XplorMor International had the privilege to lead an expedition to explore and photograph the ancient archaeological site of Hanlin in northern Myanmar (formerly known as Burma). Hanlin is part of Pyu Ancient Cities, designated UNESCO World Heritage Site #1444. This site compromises three brick, walled and moated cities of Halin, Beikthano and Sri Ksetra located in vast irrigated landscapes of the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) River basin. The Pyu Kingdoms flourished for over 1,000 years between 200 BC and AD 900. The three cities have partly excavated archaeological sites. Remains include excavated palace citadels, burial grounds, brick Buddhist stupas, partly standing walls and water management features.
